I definitely see the difference in the coverage maps, but I have no post
2/05 phone to test out how real all this is.

I think that if and when AMPS is turned off then you will lose much
less. While it's _permitted_ to be turned off in 2008, it's not
_required_ to be turned off.

I.e., compare "http://i18.tinypic.com/4yq3yn4.png" to
"http://i18.tinypic.com/4vinxo5". You lose a lot of coverage with the
newer plan. This is in a popular area for cyclists, between the Silicon
Valley and the San Mateo and Santa Cruz coasts. Look at all the gray
that turns to white when you move to the newer plan.
