Seem like last time we were in or near the park, the only service available
was analog, thus only my wife's Samsung could get a signal.

Heading to the valley for a few days in August, and wondering if anything
has changed. Now we both have RAZR's, so if not, we're out of luck this
trip. Just like to be reachable in case of an emergency at home.

You can check the coverage map but I suspect the service may be analog.

For many years people got by with finding a pay phone and calling home
every day or two, that still works, believe it or not! I got along
just fine travelling prior to cell phones...

I was there in April for several days and had some coverage with my Razr v3,
Verizon family plan. In the valley I had coverage but in other parts of the
park I didn't.

When I was at the Grand Canyon about a year ago, VZW service was really
lacking. There were quite a few people there also. Could there be a
problem constructing towers in National Parks?

Best phone to work in the middle of nowhere on an analog signal was
Motorola.

I've used my phone (surprisingly!) at the following places:

Great Smoky Mountain National Park (TN/NC) - elev 5000 feet above sea
level

Mt. Rainier National Park (WA) - elev 5600 feet

Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument (WA) - elev 4000 feet

All analog singals on either my (now retired) V60s or V325 phones.
