| Every few years something spiffy comes out. The rich guys get one to
impress their friends. By 5 years later everyone has something similar at a
fraction of the price and the whole thing is insignificant.
iphones will be like having "brick" cellphones in just a few years.
In my area, Cingular coverage sucked. You couldn't give me an iphone,
because I need the connectivity/coverage that Verizon has given me. I just
wish Verizon was less expensive.
About a year ago (1.5?), a rich friend impressed everyone by having a cute
module that sat on the restaurant table and used bluetooth to send a GPS
location to software on his PDA/phone. Now he is dead and my Free phone
from Verizon has GPS built into it. (Yes, Verizon crippled it, so I can't
display my location, but that is not the point. My point is that it didn't
take even 5 years to go from top-end expensive to Free with a bundle.)
