If you check voicemail from your own phone during peak time, you're
charged peak minutes.

Any time you cross-check voicemail from another Verizon phone, you're
charged IN-calling rates.

Works great for those on family plans that have another phone handy.

Is VM checking free nights and weekends?

Yes, you only save during peak time.

Describe what you mean by "cross-check"

Meaning you are checking voicemail on a phone other than the one you
are calling from. Every Verizon cell destination is considered IN-
calling except the one you happen to be on at the time, an
inconsistency IMO.

A while back, if you dialed your own cell number and checked your voilemail
it was considered MTM.
Then VZW changed it so when you checked your voicemail from your mobile
during peak time you always used minutes.

In SOME markets, you can access your voice mail at the numbers at this link
and it goes to "IN":

....however, not every number is "IN", and they are slowly disappearing. If
there isn't a number in your market, it MAY work with a nearby number.
