Author Adding Texting Plan and Contract Date?
Tim

I am 6 months into a 2 year Verizon plan. If I add the unlimited texting
plan option to my phone would this extend the contract date?

What does the unlimited texting cost? Does it cover messages to a non
Verizon phone? If I add the plan before the end of my billing cycle,
will it be retroactive back to the beginning of the month?

I would like to have the answers to these questions before I call so I
can cut through some of the FUD.

TIA

I think most of the above questions can be answered on the Verizon
website.

One thing I've done that's worked for me is to open the website, find
what I want to do and then call with the webpage open in front of me.

It really helps to cut through the FUD when you can tell the person on
the phone, "Look at your website, go to this page, scroll 1/2 way down,
etc. Here's what I want to know..."

XS11E,
I did look on the Verizon wireless site before posting and could not
find the answers to these questions. Thus the post here asking for
information from folks who have experienced adding texting to an
existing plan.

OK, sorry. I didn't check myself as I've never used texting.

Billing stuff usually depends on the contract zipcode, I can only say for me
, add ons (texting, mobile web etc) do NOT reset my contract (plan changes
will), however the monthly texting charge was NOT retroactive to the
beginning of the billing period, and the other person may/may not be charged
(depends on THEIR device and plan), but you will not...

Want more info about messaging (whole FAQ for all sorts of common texting
q's).. go to the verizon texting website www.vtext.com (you can also send
text messages for free to others, however, again, it is free for you, but
the other person may get charged)... One fun thing I found, at that same
site, you can define a nickname for yourself, and turn off messages to you
phone number from anyone else (IE only messages sent to the nickname go
thru, rest are blocked, if you are getting "junk/spam/unsolicited" messages,
you can block the ones to your phone number but allow them to your nickname
(click on allow text messages to my nickname only... My family and friends
know my nickname and send only to that).. You will however still keep
getting those free text messages from VZW (saying stuff like your bill in
autopay is ready for reveiw and will be paid in so and so many days)

As for the costs, fraid you are on the cusp.. They USED to have bundles, but
with the new contracts they have unlimited free (at least for my plan in my
zip code, and bundles no longer show).. The advice I got was to wait for NE2
(I'm 3 months away so hold out, get a new phone, and then make changes, in
your situation, you may just want to start a new contract and get the
unlimited text/pix etc free, lose 6 months of NE2 ($25) against monthly
charge for bundles (was $5 a month, so would have been $30 and will be about
$90 more, unless you can restart the contract with the new stuff and get it
free hmmmm $25 or $90? :) As for cost of the new stuff, it is free (text and
pix) to any other verizon phone, and 25 cents to non verizon, or 50 cents
for out of country.. As I said, have no idea if you can even still get text
messaging bundles with your zip code (You didn't say it so no way to check)

Called Verizon and was able to add a "$5.00 for 250 text message" plan
to one of the phones on my account retroactive to the beginning of the
billing cycle. This did not reset my plan dates and I can drop it at
any time.
