| Nobody you want to meet.... 2007-08-26, 3:33 pm |
| I've heard many times that two year contracts isn't good because many time
often that cell phone doesn't lasts 2 years. Would it be best to sign up
for 1 year contract, or just go month to month without contract? My
contract is up sometime in two months, and I've heard rumor about mini ipod
comoing out around christmas time, and i thought about just riding it otu
til christmas and see what's out?
| |
|
| If you get a Verizon phone with a 2 year contract, you pay less for the
phone than you would with a 1 year contract, and way less than with no
contract. Regardless of the length of your contract, if your phone dies
prematurely, you'll still need another phone. If you don't want to be
married to VZW for two years, then go for a 1 year contract, or at worst pay
the early termination fee

| this is my second time around with verizon and everytime the phone dies..
it usualy after a year and half. i do have insurance, if i go with two
years, i can alway add insurance, and it shouldn't be that bad. i dont mind
paying early termination fee, it's not a issue.

| I've had around 10 phones with VZW and non have ever died. May be my good
luck or your bad. I would assume an LG or Motorola is made of the same build
quality regardless of carrier

I picked up some spares on eBay-- though really haven't needed them.
My wife is still using her original LG VX10 which must be about 8 years old
now. I am using an LG VX4400 which about 5-6 years old. Both get a lot of
use each month and neither are pampered care wise. They're kind of banged up
and scuffed but still tight mechanically and do what we want cellies for--
to make and receive calls reliably and clearly...
We've been off contract and going month to month for many years too. The
sweetheart deal we signed up then for back in the early days of celldom is
much better than any of the current plans and that's what we get billed each
month.

You don't have to get a new contract when yours is up. You can wait.
They will keep the terms of the contract on a month to month basis.
I did that several times and only renewed when I needed a new phone.
They always went back to the original 9/25/2000 date of my first phone
no matter when the contract was renewed for the new phone.
My phone just died and I needed a new one. Verizon set my "new in two"
date back a full month so I could get a new phone. I had to renew for 2
years again, but I like their service and didn't mind at all.

Janet did they do that only because your phone had died and was un
repairable?
I'm eligible for a new phone in 30 days and wanted to get the new phone
before I leave on a trip in two weeks but they wouldn't budge on the NE2
date.

Pegleg,
I didn't ask for it. When I called the CS Rep offered to do it for me in
case my phone was not repairable. I was willing to buy a cheapie phone
for the month then get my New In Two in September. I didn't have to.
It could very well be that she offered to do it because mine was broken.
BTW, I am getting to really like this phone!

| Peggy, when My cell phone died and i had like a month and half left they
would agree to renew my 2 year contract there's such thing called " early
upgrade' which u can upgrade a month before, u have to call customer
service rep and ask about that, if theyre willing to honor that, ask them
to note that on account and go to the verizon store. I've done that several
time. only thing I can say is if you're doing 2 years.. add the
insurance, that's all i can say for now. I'm hoping to get another phone
by sometime this fall, the one i currently have is six month old, and i love
it so much problem is i can't hera phone ring or speakerphone

I have been on month to month for several years. When my phone crapped
out I got a verizon phone off ebay. The phone was new, not crippled,
and cheaper by far then buying from verizon... All good.

| Verizon has various levels of insurance for the phone. I pay for lockline,
the most expensive plan.
In my previous experience with Cingular, I went through about ten phones in
about 10 years. The cool thing about Cingular was that I could buy a
replacement phone on eBay for $10, and just switch the smartcard into the
phone. I never even had to tell Cingular about it. Of the phones that
died, the most common cause was my dropping the phone on solid concrete.
(ooops)
2 years might be about the right time frame for the beginning of new
technologies, such as internet phones from Google.

VZW is almost as cool. Activate the new phone online for free and transfer
your phonebook on line too-- also free save for the 15 cent txt message fee
to do that...

What? You haven't heard? VZ has the obsolence of their phones built in by
the manufacturers to an exacting 18 month spec. Last I heard, T-Mobile
phones lasted 25 months.

I have been using my E815 (trouble-free) for about 3 years now, and have
been "out of contract" for nearly a year. A month of so before my contract
expiration date I considered a Blackberry, and Verizon set my "new every 2"
date back to give me all the discounts and options available. I decided
against the Blackberry, but Verizon left the renewal date unchanged. One of
the advantages Verizon has over AT&T (beside a generally more reliable
network) is that they have far more subscribers under contract (pre iPhone
info). They want to keep it that way so they are flexible on the renewal
dates. Their phones may not be as current or functional, but they seems
every bit as reliable.
