What's fun is to see the price this way.....
156 bytes = $0.15
1GB / 156 bytes = 6410256.4 SMS/GB x $0.15 = $961,538.46/GB
Not a bad return on investment, eh?
Is it any wonder why they won't let you stream audio/video for 60 bucks a
month?

$961,538.46/GB x 37.544GB I downloaded today = $36,099,999 for internet
service per DAY! Cable is a real bargain compared to SMS...(c;
Does "usery" come to mind with you, too?
How much profit is too much profit??

| Yeah, I only do around ten texts a year, so NBD, but it still stinks.
IIRC it was about a year ago.

Really? It must have just been part of the recent NE2 contract reupping
then.

Isn't it really double that amount, since they're charging both the sender
and the receiver?

Only if both are using the same carrier. Verizon can't charge the receiver
if the receiver isn't a Verizon customer.

Depends on your POV, I guess.
SMS is inexpensive with a messaging plan, and the overpriced per-use
charge is designed to "convince" people to buy a plan.
Secondly, while SMS looks ridiculous when quoted as cost per MB, it
parallels mail/package delivery. I can have several hundred pounds
of frieght shipped across the country for a couple hundred bucks, but
mailing one sheet of paper costs $0.41...

I wouldn't know. About a year ago T-Mo was running a promotion - $10 extra
per account gave you unlimited text, pic and instant messaging for all the
phones on the account. At that time, unlimited messaging *was* $20 per phone
but the price has come way down.
I like my unlimited texting for $10 per *account* per month. :)
