Wiki says...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackberry

The blackberries (singular, blackberry; genus Rubus, subgenus Eubatus;
also called bramble or occasionally "bramble raspberry") are a
widespread and well known group of several hundred species, a number of
which are closely related apomictic microspecies, native throughout the
temperate Northern Hemisphere.

You're thinking of Jack Parr's 1957 spaghetti tree

It is like a Dingle-Berry! You already have some. All you need to do is look
for them. :-)

I was around in 1957, but probably too young to have stayed up late enough
to watch Jack Paar in April. I did watch his show in the summer though.
That's when he showed how blackberries were made from wheat.
