Recently had to replace my phone. Verizon did the contacts xfer for
me.

My old 385 had speed dial 1 set to voicemail. When I pressed 1 it
would dial my number with the P#4567 at the end where 4567 is vm
password, instead of *86.

New phone dials *86 with speed dial 1, even though in contacts if I go
to voicemail entry, I can see it has the correct number plus P#4567.

How can I force speed dial 1 to call the voicemail number in contacts,
instead of *86?

thanks.

My W385 has always had speedial 1 as *86, so I'm not sure why your old
one was different.

I had changed the old one, by editing "voicemail" entry in contacts so
that it dials my phone number with password.

I have a contact called Bitchbox. Its number is my phone number, some
pauses to let the vm voice prompt complete then the axcess numbers.

phone number is 8431234567ppp123456

Then I simply tell the voice dialer......"Call Bitchbox" and it dials and
logson ASAP. Works much better than *86.

Alltel won't start playing until you dial 1 after a second voice prompt, so
I have added onto that ppp1

VM starts playing without touching any buttons, now.

add or subtract the number of p in your number to sync with the voice
reading time to make it as short as possible for reliable decoding.
