Author Do Amplifiers Really Work With Nextels?

I am looking to move to an area where the reception is horrible for
about 3 miles around the house. I need the Nextel phones for my
business which will be located at the new address and have recently
read that there are "amplifiers" which improve reception of the
phones. These items are not cheap though, and before I invest in
one, I'd like to know if they really work.

I called Nextel and the person on the other line didnt know what I was
talking about. I hope someone here does! Thanks in advance.

Try a two radio orientated newsgroup for this.I know a few companies we have
dealt with have had 800mhz bi directional amplifiers put in thier buildings
to increase Nextel coverage. No complaints yet.

here is a link to something that might work.

ifiers/

or just google nextel dba or repeater.
not sure if it will increase direct connect modulation for walkie talkie
features of the phones however.

Wilson does ok, but the true champ is CSI amps. I have a business and I
install these for iden customers. CSI is all I use, Wilson has good spec's,
but they also have allot of distortion or noise that they do not say on
their website. I guess they figure the average person will not know how to
look for noise or what are the symptoms of noise. They are not the hardest
thing in the world to install. You just have to know what to do and look for
during installation. If you need any advice let me know...it is free.
Something that little kids on here should learn who are trying to make a
dollar off something they did not create in the 1st place....i.e....Depot or
lab. I do have one or two that might could cut you a deal on, but it will
depend on the size of coverage of your home and the Outside RSSI and the
SQE.

several calls to experienced nextel repeater installers has agreed with you
on this, before I even read your reply.CSI is the ways to go.Calling Nextel
general customer support will not get you answers you need Georgie. You best
bet is to find a local Two Way radio dealer ( Motorola is the best!) and
they can point you in the right direction. They should have more experience
with repeater and BDAs than a standard electronics shop or a Nextel store.
Good luck with it!

Yes, but at 800Mhz signals are line of sight with rare reflection or
refraction over a hill or around an object. Amplifiers do not improve tower
to handset signal much. An external antenna mounted as high as possible with
good feed line ( not RG58 ) will improve the signal for both paths. The best
antenna and feedline should be your first choice then add an amplifier.

Also keep in mind that Nextel generally frowns upon the use of illegal/rouge
BDA's. Especially when they go bad.

Working as Engineer for Nextel I agree 100% about rogue amps. But on saying
that...every BDA I have dealt with in my side business that has been a CSI
has never created a problem with the tower even when it has gone bad. But
Wilson on the other hand.....has created a true pain with its level of high
noise ratio and to the customer level generally poor signal amplification
which in turn made Nextel look even worse...i.e. Customer quoted to me "Hell
your service didn't work in the building before and even after I purchased a
BDA it still does not work worth a damn." I looked over it and his RSSI to
the Amp was a -60 and SQE was 32.5 after amplification on a Wilson it
was -80 and a SQE of 21.5. I installed a CSI for him and the levels read -70
and SQE is 31.2 ..These were the over all averages of the readings that were
taken in the building. To play Devils Advocate for the people who may thing
I was just trying to screw the guy over. I ended up selling him the CSI at
cost plus actual shipping. Why you may ask.....The customer was already
pissed and he got screwed by listening to a two way radio shop.....IT was
only fair, the guy had already paid enough for the system. FYI......The
reason 90% of Two-way radio shops use Wilson is there is almost a 150%
markup on the price.

Do you have a link to CSI amps?

Thanks

You should check out Inteligain amplifiers . They are the only
amplifiers licensed and approved by Motorola
