Anyone have any insight on how to get out with out hopefull having to
pay the cancelation fee

Build a time machine, go back in time, influence your decision to sign a
contract?

and as long as you are going back in time to change your decision,
write down the results of some sporting events so you can make money
and not care about the cancelation fee.

depends hwo long you've been in your contract, my friend had 4 nextel phones
on his account and had 1 year left on his contract, but he got NO service at
his house, so he called and said he hasn't been getting service at his house
and was sick of missing calls, they had him do some stuff and confirmed it
and he was released from his contract penality free.

I have been n it for almost two months, and cant get service inside
my house, have to go in the back yard, (Weather permitting) and
overall I am finding allot of DEAD Zones in what my previous carrier
had max reception all the time.

I've had nextel for about 3 or 4 years now, and LOTS of dead zones, dropped
calls and otehr mishaps. they are HORRABLE for service (in this area)
dispite countless network tickets nothigns been done, the only reason I
still have it is my work pays for the phone (we use the walkie talkie
feature a lot at work) if I had to actually pay 1 dime for this service, I'd
switch. I imagine once nextel is switched over to the spring network, it
will be much beter, but the iDEN network is bad and old technology and they
only want to dump the least amount of money as possible into it because
eventually it will be on the sprint network.

One question... Why'd it take you so long to find out that service
is unacceptable? The same question applies to the previous poster's
friend.

haha, it didn't take that long, believe me, but it's actually gone downhill
form what it used to be. I heard something (not sure if it was just my area,
or nextel as a whole) that they were using too much power on their
transmitters, and were forced to scale them back by the FCC (again, not sure
if thats true or nt) were also told that other towers were going up soon in
the area, and again for me the direct connect is a VERY useful feature at
work. I rarely use it with friends (although most of them don't have nextel
anymore becuase of poor service, most have verizon or cingular.)

If signal strength has gotten worse, you might have a case. As far as the
promise that more towers would go up, you may have been suckered.

When we first signed up back in December, the signal strength was
fantastic, and I could make calls from inside the house with no
problem, now after the first of the year, you cant get one bar, and
the majority of the time it says no service until I go out in the front
of the house.

When I get the time in the next couple of days and I have the patience
to deal with someone in Retention than I will go ahead and state my
issues AGAIN.

Also whats up with spending 149.00 dollars on a phone and with in 30
days having to have to replace it with the CS Step program and they
send me a USED/REFURBISHED phone, I called about that and the one
called back and left a message on the machine that the customer service
rep that told me that I was going to get a NEW Phone LIED to me.
I saved that on the answering machine.

Over all what good is it going to do, who knows, all I know is the
wife is not happy with the service and tells me after the 15 day trial
period is up and because she has Onstar in the car, she doesnt need a
seperate phone.

In all fairness, your wife not needing a separate phone is probably
something that should have been thought of before you signed up for the
service.

If you have called in to Nextel to report the service issues and nothing has
been done in a reasonable amount of time, you may be able to get out of the
contract. Be sure to keep any reference numbers they give you in case they
give you a hard time.

Michael,

Most carriers give a 14 to 30 day trial period to test for these type
problems. The very nature of how cellular telephone works does not
guarantee reception inside building (or anywhere really). Cellular
works on radio waves and conditions are constantly changing. By the
way, cellular is not guaranteed to work in a moving car either. Look
how many people use cellular telephones while driving.
