Can Nextel phones use Cingular SIM cards?

| I may have an opportunity to get a deal on some Nextel phones, but I am with
Cingular and am HAPPY with Cingular and have no desire to break my contract.
My question is obvious from the headline -- can Nextel phones work with
Cingular SIM cards? If not, I'll have to continue my search for getting a
phone compatable with my cingular SIM card -- which is driving me absolutely
MAD.
Thanks,
synunoi

| Long story short, Nextel phones use the iDEN Network Protocol vs Cingular
who uses GSM Protocol. Although they are capable of the same frequencies
in the US, the difference in protocols is akin to speaking different
languages.
However, Nextel now has an "international" model that can do both iDEN and
GSM w/GPRS. This model is the Motorola i930 Smart Phone (WM2003). If you
can do a subsidy unlock, you can remove the Nextel SIM and insert the
Cingular one. There are a couple little changes to make in the phone
settings, but it works like a champ. GPRS also functions well if you
create a profile for it on the phone using the appropriate Cingular
settings.
Check out the idenphones.motorola.com site as well as PhoneScoop and
HowardForums for more info.
