Author Unwanted Nextel Partner Spam...

Hello-

Inquiring among Nextel clients to see if they have received unwanted text
messages from Nextel Partners in the last year.

These unwanted advertisements would have been meant to encourage upgrading
or adding new phonees, etc.

I, along with some others I know, have periodically received them in the
past and I would like to now how pervasive they are and your reaction to
them.

Thanks,

Mark

I receive typically a message a month, offering me a free phone, if I
activate a new acct, with a 2 year commitment.

Apparently, they haven't thought it thru very well, seeing as I
ALREADY AM A CUSTOMER AND DON'T NEED 2 ACCOUNTS to get the free phone.

Truly I find it ironic and laughable, but not really irritating like
many other people do.

On an almost related note, I have some schmuck in my area that keeps
giving out my cell number as his. Long story short, he's got the same
7 digits, but he's the next area code East of me. Also, this has been
going on for about 2-3 years now...

How did I solve this problem, or at least have some fun with it?

Let's put this in Mastercard terms...

- Leaving the the guy a voicemail asking him to learn what area code
he's in... 1 minute of airtime
- Leaving him a second message about it a few weeks later... 1 more
minute of airtime
- Changing your outgoing voicemail message to say that the guy is no
longer with the company, as the company went out of business, and then
getting messages saying how sorry people are to hear that...
Priceless...

The only thing that made it better was the VM I got this weekend...
Someone wanted to do business with his company, or hopefully buy out
the rights to one of their industrial products since they've
"apparently gone out of business".

I'm certainly in a good mood about it... :)
