Anyone know if Fido has a SNPP server, and if so what is the address?

Thanks.

I'm not sure if Fido or Microcell ever offered paging services. So, I
don't think they have a SNPP server.

They have a TAP number, and it still is in operation. I was hoping they had
a SNPP server. All I found was a Rogers address, but it does not work with
a Fido number...

Their TAP is used for their SMS. They are now charging recipients 15
cents per message that came thru TAP.

I think you mean SMPP. Yes, Microcell had SMPP. They had to have it to
offer SMS based banking with Caisees Pop and Banque Natioanle way back
when. And they refuse to admit they have it. Just like they refused to
admit they had DATA instealled and running years ahead of its competitors.

And beware. Mobile networkls are closing off users from the outside
world. Some networks now don't let you access WAP sites that are not in
their portal to ensure people can't download competitor's ring tones
wiothout paying the network.

So I doubt very much that Rogers would open up SMPP.

Fido did have a TAP dial up service however. If you use GOOGLE on this
newsgroup you should find the phone number.

We really mean SNPP (Simple Network Paging Protocol). It is an IP
address and port number that is use to send page (beeper) messages.

Found:

http://www.notepage.net/snpp.htm

It also has a page listing various TAP numbers.

Found roger's SNPP address. But not Microcell/Fido.

Also looked at Fido.CA's zone file and there don't seem to be any
obvious hosts. One would have to do a port scan for 444 on all the hosts
listed in the zone file to spot an SNPP server running.
