| Sprint PCS now offers coverage in the four downtown San Francisco BART
stations and in the tunnels between them. The 11/19/2005 SF Chronicle
article linked below announced it was coming, and today was the first
day I noticed it and used it.

The system uses Andrew Radiax slotted coaxial cable as its transmission
and antenna medium.

This is the same technology installed several years ago by BART
throughout its underground tunnels for its police comunications.
Back in the Internet bubble years, a group of companies led by Andrew
was going to wire the tunnels and sell the space, but the plan fell
through. Later, then-AT&T Wireless added cellsites in the 4 downtown
BART stations, but not the tunnels. My Sprint phone would detect an
Analog Roam signal but was never able to use it.
The SF Chronicle article says the system was built by Nextel, but I
think it was a combination of Nextel and Cingular. Nextel announced its
service with ads in the BART stations under downtown SF a few months ago.
