Ah. I *love* In'n'Out. But I also love Red Robin. I don't think the two are
mutually exclusive. Red Robin does burgers you won't find anywhere else. In
'n' Out's style, while yummy, is similar to Steak'n'Shake in the Midwest. (I
miss Steak'n'Shake, having moved from a house about five minutes away from
one of their restaurants. But having In'n'Out here makes up for the loss of
SNS.)

I've never had In 'n' Out, so I can't comment on it. I stand by my disgust
with Red Robin (yes, they do burgers you won't find anywhere else, and I
don't want to find them anywhere else). When I was a kid, Steak and Shake
expanded into the Chicago area, proved to be incompetent, and retracted out
of here again. I always made it a point to go there when I traveled
downstate. A few years ago, they tried again around here (also
overbuilding; there are two within three miles on the same state highway).
Problem is, I no longer like their food. The burgers are cold and blah, the
fries suck, and the milk shakes are no better than the milk shakes at
McDonald's, but Mc's are about twice the size for the same price (okay, so
SNS has more flavors and gives you a cherry -- BFD). The best burger in the
Chicago area is at Portillo's (but not at Brown's Chicken, even though the
owners of the two chains are brothers; Brown's burgers are almost as bad as
SNS).
