I am about to upgrade my phone to a more sensitive unit. Other sprint
users seem to have better reception than mine which brings me to this
question. Are there models/ manufactures to avoid? Can anyone suggest a
good basic phone with best reception in mind? Many thanks...

Models to choose from on eBay seems to be between LG, Sanyo, Samsung,
Moto and Nokia.
Can anyone suggest what not to buy or couple that stand out in there
opinion.
Many thanks again...

You'll find, if you search the archives, that Sanyo is the
favorite in a walk for a huge number of Sprint users. They're
reliable, the interface is generally agreeable, and they are said to
find and hold a signal better than any others. Sanyo only makes mobile
phones in this country for Sprint, so some have drawn the conclusion
that these phones have been optimized for use on SPCS. I don't know
about that, but I always use Sanyo phones, and have tried quite a few
of them.

However, the real test of which phone to buy is what works
best for you, in your area. When you buy from Sprint, you get to check
it out for either 10 or 14 days (can't remember). When buying from
Ebay, I suppose the best thing is to ask other Sprint users in your
area. Perhaps there are some reading this NG.

Thanks David, I am in a pretty good area for signal strength, my
problem is when we go to Florida, near Panama City, where one
phone will work well (on same provider) and ours (and few others)
don't work as well so can only assume its the phone.

Ours is an older unit (scp-4700) and has worked well (exp-Florida)
so its time for a new one.

I don't see any site that show receiver sensitivity's or any other
specs for the different phones available. I am a tech from way back
that use to work on FM communication devices so it's natural for
me to wan't to find some spec's on what I'm buying.

Any ideas and many thanks for you input...

Specs as far as sensitivity are going to be hard to come by. I would
suggest scanning sites that do reviews of the different phones to see
what they, and other users of the phones have to say. I like cnet.com,
and mobileburn.com for this, but there are many others. might want to
just do a google search for 'sprint mobile phone reviews' or something
similar.
