The current problem with CDMA is that data roaming is not provided. This is
especially true for Sprint. Sprint needs to provide data roaming in all
markets where CDMA coverage exists. After all, Sprint is advocating
applications like TeleNav that requires a constant Internet connection in
order to successfully use the service. When will this happen? It is a
no-brainer and the GSM folks have had this capability for a very long time.
Sprint and other CDMA providers need to move into the 21st century in this
regard.

Data roaming commences with Alltel July 1st. There're alot of
"political" impediments
regarding roaming with VZW. It removes "strategic advantages" of one
carrier
over another. If VZW users could roam to EV-DO on Sprint what impetus
would the
VZW subscriber have to move to Sprint for "native" coverage?

1. This i not a CDMA issue, this is a carrier issue.

2. Verizon offers data roaming with Alltel and USCC. And starting July
1, Sprint will offer data roaming with Alltel.

Sprint also needs to offer data roaming on Verizon especially on the East
Coast. Does anyone know when Sprint-Verizon data roaming will happen?

You're making statements, but offering little reasoning. Just because
it would be nice doesn't mean it's going to happen. Can you say what
specific benefit it would have for you? Is there some market that
Verizon offers data but Sprint does not?

Probably never. As it stands, both carriers avoid roaming on each
other's networks for voice whenever they can.

I have a laptop with a Sprint EVDO card and an unlimited access plan. In
California and Nevada, if there is no Sprint signal, a Sprint phone will
roam on Verizon for voice calls. On the other hand, if there is no Verizon
signal, a Verizon phone is not permitted to roam on Sprint in California or
Nevada.
