PAM plus regular phone plan ???

| I got a new Samsung 900 phone last month and ordered a 200 minute plan
plus a Data Plan. The rep on the phone said no problem, and have I
satisfied your expectations today. When I received the phone, I had the
200 minutes of talk time, but the data plan was missing. So I called *2
and asked them to add back the Data Plan. The rep I spoke to said we're
sorry for the inconvenience, the plan has been adjusted as you wished.
When I got my bill on July 17, I found the data plan had been added but
the 200 minutes had been taken off.
I mailed Ecare and asked them to fix it. After some back-and-forth, I
got this: "We do not have such plan which includes both voice minutes
and phone as a modem access. To use your phone as a modem, you will
need to activate another line with a data plan only."
Is this true? Or is this just yet another Sprint customer service person
who doesn't know what he's talking about?

The only plan that supports using the phone as a modem is the "Power Vision
Attachable Plan"
This is an additional, seperate package and does not relate in any way to
your voice plan.
There may be other ways to use the phone as an attachable modem, but these
methods are not supported by Sprint and may incur additional charges.

they replied with information about three other Power Vision plans, not
mentioning the Power Vision Attachable Plan. What do I have to do to get
them to sell me the plan I want?

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.
When I got my plan in April, the plan was called "Power Vision Attachable"
it appears that Sprint now calls it the "PAM Data Plan". You may want to
call back and request the package using the latter name.
If that fails, it may come to this:

In the list of features, note one of the items says "Phone as Modem Capable"
Here is a list of Sprint's wireless data plans:

The top of the page details the PCMCIA card plans, and the bottom details
the PAM plans.
Print both pages. On the phone page hilite the fact that the phone is PAM
capable. Then, circle the plan you want from the list of data plans. Go to
the store and request the circled plan be added to your account.
I'm almost positive this procedure will not fail.

I am new to this phone as a modem idea so please explain something to me.
If you use the phone as a modem and so some web browsing, don't you easily
exceed the 40MB per month limit provided by the $39.99 plan? What for
example do people do with this connection that can be done with under 40MB?
It seems like nothing, and users could easily be hit the end of the month
with a $69.99 change. Should people on this plan therefore stay away from
web browsing and limit their connectivity to a pop mail server for example?
Even then watchout for incoming mail with large files attached.
So, is the expection that most people go with the unlimited plan which is
only $10.00 more?

Hi Bob,
Yeah, the limited data plan is kind of silly. I download well over 40mb in
one out-of-the-house development session. But I guess I can see some uses
for it.
When I got my phone, the unlimited PAM plan was on sale for $39.99, so I was
kind of lucky.
If you have a high end phone and an higher tier voice plan you may be able
to try to socially engineer yourself in to the unlimited plan for $39.99.

Anytime Minutes Free and Clear is also a Plan. They say that you can't
have two plans at once. They also say that there is no "attachable" PAM
plan. They're saying I have to have a connection card, or have the phone
as a modem with no calling minutes, making every minute 20 cents each.
Help! What's the magic word?

They're definitely wrong about that. I have the 200 F&F plan ($29.99)
AND the the $39.99 PAM Unlimited Plan on my one line of service, and
have never had a problem. Whoever is saying it can't be done has no
clue what they're talking about.
