Author Treo 650 Owners on T-Mo??

I'm thinking about buying an unlocked Treo 650 for use with T-Mo. Can
anyone recommend a place that sells Treo 650s at a low price?

$559 at Newegg.

I haven't seen them from large, reputable sellers for less than that.
Of course, you can always check eBay...but if you want an unbranded
one, they tend to fetch about what you could pay for one from one of
the above. (Unlocked Cingular-branded 650s go for less.)

After just having a second Treo smartphone die on me after less than a
year of service, I would advise against investing in an unlocked Treo.
At least when you get them through T-Mobile and they fail, you get a
quick replacement for the first year. I got my first Treo 600 in
January, it was replaced in July or August and the second one just
appeared to die today.

A quick Google will point out that there is at least one class-action
lawsuit against Palm regarding the Treo 600/650. I realize class-action
lawsuits don't always mean much, but in light of my experience, I
believe this one has some merit. They appear to just be churning out
crap. It's a shame, because I think the interface is superior to the
Blackberry.

Interesting. I am curious as to whether T-Mobile is going to officially
support the Nokia 9300 or the 9300i here in the States.

I've had way better luck with the Nokia 9500 I bought on my own a year
or so ago than several of my coworkers have had with company-supplied
Treo 650s.

Well, it doesn't really matter whether they support it, as long as you
believe the product will be reliable. My wife is using a 3-year-old
Nokia 6610 I passed down to her when I got my Treo and it still works
like a champ. Fact is, there's a lot of difference in quality from one
brand to another and PalmOne in no way deserves to be at the top of
that list.

I'd believe it. Given all the trouble, I'm kind of surprised that
Verizon and Sprint decided to carry the new CDMA version. It seems that
the carriers would have banded together behind a device from a
competitor, either RIM or Nokia.

I think I'm going to let them exchange my Treo 600, but I know now that
I won't buy a 650 for EDGE compatibility. I'll go with another device.

I'm hoping mine hold up. I have two 650's. The first I got through
Verizon and the second I bought unlocked through Expansys. I use the
unlocked one with Tmobile. Both have been solid so far. I've used the
Tmo one in both the US and Germany/Italy with no problems. I pulled the
SIM card last week and used it with a rental phone in Tokyo.

Just as a follow-up, it appears the problem with my latest Treo 600
was the charger. I suspected that could be it because the charger
didn't get warm when it was plugged in. The issue was compounded by
the fact that while traveling last week, I completely drained my
Treo's battery for the first time.

I don't think the Treos are really bad products, but they do appear to
be flaky. As I said, I had an issue where the Web functionality on my
first one stopped working for a bit. Outside of the charger issue, the
second has performed fine, though.
