Author Text Message Problem
MS

On T-Mobile USA, Los Angeles area.

For years I have had alerts set up for several e-mail boxes. In other words,
I have the e-mail accounts configured on My T-Mobile, and have it set up to
send a text message to me (I have a bucket of 300 per month with my old
T-Zones plan, which more than covers them) whenever I receive an e-mail on
one of those boxes. I don't have my e-mail downloaded automatically, but by
receiving a text message whenever an e-mail arrives, I hear a beep to let me
know that, I can look at the text message to see who the e-mail is from,
what the subject heading of it is, and some of the first text of the body of
the message, as well as the date, time, and which e-mail account it is
coming into. Then, if it is an e-mail I want to read immediately, I can go
to that mailbox and do a Send and Receive. This has worked well for me for
years.

It worked both on my prior phone, a Motorola V60, and my present phone,
which I've had over a year now, an unlocked (both carrier and application
unlocked) Audiovox SMT5600 (originally locked to ATT Wireless, bought on
Ebay, runs Windows Mobile Smartphone 2003 OS).

Just recently, however, it has stopped working. Although I certainly get
multiple e-mails every day, no text message comes to my phone about it.

I checked on the My T-Mobile web site, where one configures that, and saw
that I still have those alerts configured on those e-mailboxes, that should
send a text message alert whenever I receive an e-mail in any of those
mailboxes. In order to re-set them, I took off the alert for each of those
mailboxes, saved the changes. Then I went back there and re-set them up.
Still, I do not receive any such alerts. I've checked on the web site
multiple times, and it always appears that they are set up correctly, but I
do not receive the alerts.

I called CS at 611, and they looked at my account, and said that the alerts
are set up correctly.

Today, to see if the problem was with the phone, I turned it off, took out
the sim card, and put it in my old V60, and powered that up. I sent a few
test e-mails to myself. This time, I did receive some text messages shortly
thereafter, although not as many as the test e-mails I had sent. And, these
text messages do not give me any info--they do not say who the sender is,
what the subject line says, any of the body of the message, nor any other
info about the e-mail. All of the text messages I received on the V60 say
exactly the same thing: "application/vnd.wap.emntwbxml" (without the
quotes). I'm not even sure whether these text messages were alerts from the
test e-mails or not, since they are not the same in number, and since no
info about the e-mail is in the text message.

Has there been a recent change in the T-Mo text messaging system, that could
have caused this problem-- that I don't receive the alerts about e-mail at
all on the SMT5600, and on the V60 I received some that might have been some
of the test e-mail messages, but are pretty much worthless, not giving any
info on the e-mails.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? Is there anyone else
reading who had such e-mail alerts set up? If so, are they still working?

Thank you to anyone who can help with this.

T-Mobile sent out notice some time ago with the monthly bill about the
incompatibility of the V60 (and others) with T-Mobile's new voicemail
system. From what I heard, SMS and the voicemail message indicator
would not function properly.

My post was not about voice mail, but about text messages. And I'm not using
the V60 now. Please read post again.
