McDonald's employees get $90 off equipment and get 30 days to cancel.
Someone told me anyone can take advantage of the corporate discount and
indeed, I didn't see anything stopping someone from ordering a phone
and signing up for new service that doesn't work at McDonald's, but I
really didn't read the fine print.

My guess is the contract. Probably to the effect of at any time if
they find out you DON'T work for McDonalds, they can terminate your
service and you are liable for the discount amount you were given plus
the ETF.

I saw nothing in the Terms and Conditions to that effect. My source
tells me that McD's allows non-employees to fall under the corporate
umbrella: the more users, the bigger the discount. I'm also told the
current discount is 10-12% off the monthly bill.

I'm reluctant to go ahead until I can hear if anyone else can confirm
or deny. Without giving the who and the where, I am a taxi driver and I
picked up a rider who claimed to work for T-Mobile on the corporate
level, but he did seem on the level. We discussed many issues and he
told me about some things that were on the horizon for T-Mobile. He was
the one that told me about the URL. I am naturally suspicious of
something for nothing so I am throwing this out to the wind to see what
comes back.

Since the discount only applies to the activation and initial phone
purchase, I doubt there would ever be a problem. They'd really have to
investigate to find out and then, if you're a paying customer, they
wouldn't want to alienate you anyway. The McDonalds deal really costs
them nothing in that the discount is less than the commission they pay
to authorized independent dealers for a new customer. The $125 value is
actually half what they pay to dealers so you still may find a better
deal at the indy dealer. For example, a local dealer here in Honolulu is
offering the Razr v3 for -$30 after rebate with a 1 year contract. So
you actually get the Razr for free and a check for $30. Even with the
MickyD discount you won't do as well at the TMo site.

Fair enough, but to the end-user equipment is cheaper (at least through
T-Mo's website or Retail stores, online vendors and Indys
notwithstanding) and there is that nebulous monthly discount (10-12%
supposedly) that would make it a "why not?" proposition. Unless I'm
missing something (I'm still waking up at the moment), I don't see how
with the McD $90 off retail price you don't do as well as the T-Mobile
site. $109 vs $199 for the V360 for example. The only ones that would
not benefit would be a dealer or middleman and they are cut out of the
equation anyway.

As far as rebates and dealers, well they look good on paper but I've
heard too many stories about the final price not going the way one
would want or expect. In fact, I'm still waiting on a $50 rebate from
T-Mobile since June, I've gotten so many stories, the latest one being
a check was cut on Oct 17 and is in the mail. So as far as I am
concerned, final prices with rebates do not impress me, I'm more
concerned with final price that is the final price out the door. Again
this attitude is based on my own experience. I've been burned with 2
rebates "vanishing" in my tenure with T-Mobile and I've been around
since Voicestream days. Maybe I just have bad rebate karma.

Even discounting the rebate $20 is a damn good price for a Razr. Rebates
do require some management sometims but I always do get them.

If you want a Razr and live in Hawaii.

Merry Christmas (or insert your own politically correct holiday
salutation here) Bruce!
