T-zones mysteriously gone?
|
|
| Armada 2005-05-19, 12:12 pm |
| I have an account ($30/300 whereever plan, unlimited weekends) with Tmo
with the unlimited Internet VPN option. Up until, oh, a couple of days
ago - I had unlimited Tzones on my phone. However, I go to Tzones this
morning, and I find that its gone and telling me that I will have to
pay $4.99 for the unlimited Tzones option.
I call Tmo, and they tell me that - yes, I would have to pay extra for
Tzones on my account even though I have the unlimited Internet option.
I was under the impression that if I had the Unlimited VPN Internet
option I also would get access to Tzones Unlimited. So if that isn't
the case, why did I have acccess to it, and now I don't?
Has something changed with their account\pricing structure?
TIA

You should be able to access WAP sites with VPN -- I know I can. If I
couldn't, I'd be shut out of Yahoo! Mail, as TM is indeed now
confirming there's an issue accessing that over Internet2/TM VPN.
Data services aren't shared, as part of any family plan, but it
doesn't sound as if this is affecting you.

| OK, I tried accessing a wap site (wap.yahoo.com) and it will NOT let me
do so. The same screen telling me that I need to sign up for Tzones
for $4.99/mo comes up.
Hmm, now I am wondering if somehow my Internet access has been hosed.
I am going to have to fire up my laptop and try it out. Over the
weekend, I broke out my laptop. I popped the sim out of my phone and
into my Aircard 750 and downloaded the latest version of the Aircard
Watcher software. The most recent Watcher software required a firmware
revision for the Aircard, which I did download. After the card reset
itself, I needed to re-enter the Internet parameters (namely
'internet3.voicestream.com) back into the simcard, then I was able to
surf.
I wonder if something else was changed on my simcard that I don't know
about, and that it is somehow interfering with my tzones access which I
have had up until now.

T-Zones uses a different APN. Try using the parameters on
http://www.t-mobile.com/help/services/tz/config.asp .
On a related note, even though I have had no problems using T-Zones with the
VPN plan, I haven't been able to *configure* my T-Zones settings ever since
they revamped the My T-Mobile site--there's simply no link to the
configuration page (which is supposed to be under 'Communication Tools').
Is it just me? I complained several times to no avail.

No, it is not you. After logging into my account on tmobile.com, I
also see no way of changing my tzones settings.
Oh - and btw, just as mysterious it was that I lost tzones access, I
tried it again 24 hours after my initial post here - and viola, I have
tzones again.
Bizarre....

Probably a temporary system problem and nothing bizarre about it at all!

So , any ideas on how to reconfigure my tzones settings via the tmo
website?

Start here after logging into My T-Mobile:

I know that link. It doesn't have anything besides a blurb telling me what
I will be able to do if I subscribe to T-Zones, like downloading, emailing,
IMing, blah blah blah, all for $4.99 or $9.99 a month. But no thanks, I
already have access to all that with a VPN Internet subscription, without
paying the extra $5/mo. All I am looking for is a way to configure the
T-Zones 'My Settings'. It used to be an external site that was linked from
My T-Mobile.

Sounds like the T-zones setup is about as responsive as the "Web
Accelerator" page. I've had unlimited internet plan for over a year and
have NEVER been able to configure web accelerator.

| The tzones.aspx URL takes me to takes me to a page that wants to sell
T-Zones. My plan is listed as T-Zone SmartPhone. They used to have a
link to T-Zones from the mail page, but they cleared that out.
I can get to T-Zones on the phone just fine.
Of course they aren't billing me for usage anymore either. Can't
complain too loud.
I guess I need to set my own bookmarks.
By the way, my Sony Clie's browser still works with wap.t-mobile.com.

Nope. SIM card the same. It's what their database allows to be done in their
switches with that SIM card which keeps you out of T-Zones.
'Til then, try skweezer.net which offers low bandwidth rendition of web sites,
if that's what you wanted WAP for.
