| I've been told that one can get the same deal on a phone to renew a
contract, as a new customer gets. Not the same deal one might see on Amazon,
but the same deal that T-Mobile offers.
If you don't see what you want on upgrades on web site, call cust serv, tell
them the phone you want to upgrade to, that you want the same deal as a new
customer. My guess is you would get it. You could also go into a T-Mobile
store and do the same, get the same deal they offer a new customer.
One thing you should consider with your idea of canceling service, is
whether you could get as good a deal for your monthly service as you have
now. That adds up to much more in the long run than the price of a phone. It
depends on what plan you have now. I have a plan they were offering for
quite a while as a promotion, to get more T-Mo customers--1000 anytime,
unlimited weekends, no roaming, no LD charges for calls within US, $39.99
per month. I don't think they offer as good a deal now. Also $2.99 T-Zones,
including a lot of extra text messages, now the T-Zones is $4.99, and I'm
not sure if it includes the extra text messages. I don't think I could get
that good a deal on any other carrier, nor on T-Mobile again if I cancelled
and re-started.
If you cancelled (without immediate switching to another carrier), you would
also give up your phone number, and have to get a new one when you re-start,
another factor to consider.
However, if you call and start the cancellation process, from what I
understand you will reach the retention department (I have never done this,
just read about it online), who will try to get you to stay, and you could
most likely get the phone deal you want from them, if your prior efforts
didn't work, and not have to cancel.
