Hi,

Even though I have been the Omnipoint/Voicestream/T-Mobile user for
many years now, currently I am living in the UK. I have to recommend a
GSM Nokia phone to my parents back in the US, and I am just appalled at
the lack of GSM phones that are available, subsizdied through T-Mobile
contracts.

My parents want to get a 12-month contract. Can they get a decent Nokia
phone at a decent price? I mean, they offer 2 models which are basic.
Here in the UK, there is plethora of good Nokia phones.

Is it possible to get a Nokia 6170, 7160, 2650, or any other newer and
popular model, that is Tri-Band at a subsidized price (so not paying an
arm and a leg for it?) If not through T-Mobile direct, then some
authorized dealer.

If not, than can I request not to have a contract or have some sort of
rebate.

It's amazing how primitive models are offered on the US market. Being
in Europe for a few years, I just realize that.

Thanks,
G

Depending where you live, yes you can get a phone like the 6170. I did. I
did a search on google and found a decent reseller in the north side of
chicago (about 40 minutes away from my house. Not that far) that sold just
about any phone you wanted. All unlocked. Granted you paid more than what
t-mobile would have charged you but you don't have to extend your contract.
No shipping or anything. I actually walked out with my new nokia 6170.
(Which i love, but warning: Only 2.4 Mb of memory.. Ewww)
