| I am thinking of signing up for a T Mobil plan and phone wise it came
down to Motorola A630 or Sidekick. As I don't want to go by the specs of
the phones alone, I'd like to hear about personal experiences with
either of them before I decide. I am especially interested on signal
sensitivities and battery lives of the two phones.
Thanks,
Rudy

Well, Rudy, I acan only tell you about my experience with the SideKick II.
I have buy typically do not use it for voice. The one time I did use it for
voice was to call customer service and I used the speakerphone function - it
worked as expected, loud and clear.
I use it for instant messaging (both Yahoo and AIM), E-Mail while on the
road, and TXT messaging with a Vietnamese girlfreind. All of these functions
work wonderfully. E-Mail works especially well for some reason, it even
seems to work here at home where there is no T-Mobile service. I can't make
a call, sign on the the IM services or send TXT messages from home but each
morning I get up and the E-Mail has messages received.
As for battery life, I have to charge it each nite when I go to bed. I am
not sure how long it actually would last but without the overnight charge,
it seems to go off pretty quickly the following day. I recently bought a CLA
charger cord for it though so that is no longet an issue.
It's size is small and the swivel screen is great. The Qwerty keyboard is ok
once you get used to it. Things like the exclamation mark are not where they
usually are and are an Alt function instead of a shift function. It does
have an automatic lighting system for the screen and you can manually turn
on/off the keyboard backlighting.
Someone else will have to tell you about the Motorola. As for the SideKick
II I would recommend it.

| The two phones serve different purposes.
If you want a web browser, of the two, only the Sidekick has this function.
If you want to send e-mails, again, the Sidekick.
Obviously, with the Sidekick you also get an e-mail address as well as a
phone number.
Keep in mind to use these functions and voice, you will need a plan for
voice and one for the internet.
The A630 is simply a phone that opens to reveal a keyboard. The keyboard
makes it easy to text message.
It is not a mini-Sidekick.
Before concerning yourself with battery life & signal, be sure to pick a
phone that suits your needs.
Also consider how comfortable you will be holding the Sidekick to your face
while using the phone function.

Well, I expect the phone function mainly to be used for emergencies, so
the Sidekick II sounds like what I might go for, especially after
reading John's comments. Too bad it does not also have WiFi capability.
Maybe Sidekick III ? BTW, who manufactures those Sidekicks?

Looks like the Danger Company makes the generic version under the Hip
Top name and the T Mobile version as Sidekick.
