Author Problem using T-mobile Phone (unlocked) to Surf Internet with Cingular Service

I recently bought a T-Mobile Phone Nokia 6800, which was unlocked. But now I
am using this with a Cingular Plan, and having trouble trying to use the
Internet. My sim
card is working fine. I can make phone calls without any problem. But when I
try to connect to using the Internet, it only brings ups T-mobile Tzones. I
asked a cingular dealer and they said because it was Tmobile programmed that
is why I can't use it
for Internet access? Should I be able to use since the phone is unlock? I
can use the internet service on my old phone. Do you know how I can resolve
this issue?

You just have to add the settings for the Cingular network. I can't
speak for Nokia, but on Motorola's there's a menu item for Web Sessions
that lets you have a list of carriers with their settings. TMo settings
won't work on Cingular but if you add the Cingular settings and select
it as your default you should be good to go.

That is correct for all carrier-provided phones. The carrier programs
browser and data settings so that the phone they (T-Mobile) can be used on
their (T-Mobile's) network.

"Unlocked" means you can use a SIM card from a carrier other than T-Mobile,
to make voice phone calls. You cannot assume **ANYTHING** about browser,
email, pictures, ringtones, games, voice mail, etc.

Go to the Cingular web site and get the WAP settings. *****IF*****
T-Mobile has not also disabled the "edit active service settings" choice in
your browser setup menu, you may be able to manually change them to the
ones that work for Cingular. Otherwise there is a way to have the
Cingular web site send you a browser message which will configure the
phone for you - but last week someone reported that the web page that was
supposed to do this was not working.

Didn't work on my T-mobile branded but unlocked Nokia 6610. When I was traveling abroad a few
months ago and used my phone with local SIM, I tried to have the provider send me browser config
over the air, and when my phone received them, it first complained something about all browser config
slots being full and then added that the browser settings are locked. So having phone unlocked allows
you to use it with a different SIM, but won't necesserily unlock all the settings.

The only way to get past this is to flash your phone's firmware to non-branded version. I am not sure if
it is legal, but I know some small stores (do you live anywhere near a Chinatown?) will do it for a fee.

Visit www.nokia.com/us/settings and have them sent to your phone...

This is precisely what is impossible to do if your browser settings are
locked the way I described in my previous post. Doesn't matter who sends
you the settings, the provider or Nokia.

I just looked at my v3 to see how that's set up. It's an unlocked phone
using TMo. My Web Session settings listed include ones for Cingular and
the ones that TMo sent to the phone. There is a lock indicator next to
the TMo setting but the lock only prevents me from changing the
settings. I can still select the Cingular settings if I want to.

Where did you get the WAP setting for Cingular? I looked all over the
Cingular's website, and couldn't find the setting for the Internet.

My v3 is a Cingular phone so it's loaded by default. TMo sent me theirs
when I added TZones. The password is hidden so this might not be much
help but, FWIW, here are the Cingular settings that came with my phone
for Media Net:
