How SIM card carries my phone book?

| I switched my SIM to different new phone with the old SIM card, I can
see all the phone numbers which I entered in old phone book?. I was
wondered whether SIM card had any flash to store all these phone book?.
Does SIM card remembers or the carries iotself stores these numbers
over the Network?. For example if I switch to different carrier, then I
am not sure whether aIA can use the same SIM card. Any idea?. Thanks.

| The SIM has memory and stores your phonebook info internally if you want
it to. It does not store the numbers with the carrier. You can move the
SIM to any other GSM phone. You cannot use the same SIM if you switch to
another carrier since the SIM also contains the carrier info. A new SIM
will be furnished by the new carrier. You can move the phonebook from
the old SIM to the phone's internal memory then insert the new SIM and
copy it from the phone's memory to the new SIM.

A SIM is just a form of "smart card" as was previously used to store
pictures in some older digital cameras etc. and is what's used for
some phone cards that have stored value on the cards. Same in
principal as SD and MMS cards. Your name/number data is stored on the
card so if you switch to a different handset all your information that
you entered and saved to the card is there. If you switch to a
different carrier if it's a GSM carrier they will have a new SIM card.
The only way to have the information from your old card on the new one
is to back up the information on your old card and transfer it to the
new card.
