Why no SmartPhones?

| Why doesn't TMobile in the US carry any Windows Mobile Smartphones, like the
SMT5600, MPx220, or MDA? I know for sure that TMobile in Europe supports
many different Smartphones. We only get one clunky model in the US, the
iPAQ, which is really a PocketPC, not a Smartphone.
I called customer support and asked if I could use an MPx220 on their
network - would they support me if I had a problem. The answer was no.
Are they trying to push their HotSpots with the iPAQ? Do they just dislike
Microsoft? Do they have too many customers and are trying to drive some to
Cingular? It makes no sense.

| The MPx220 is such a chunk of crap that I think T-Mobile would rather
hear people whine about them not having it then deal with thousands of
people bitching it doesnt work properly.

| A friend from France (he wants to become a US citizen) has the SMT5600,
with Orange. He was using the TMo service while here. So, the unit is
compatible. The phone rocks. I have phone envy.

You can feel free to buy it and use it all you like if it works. Any
support would be between you and the manual that came in the box. You
can't really expect them to support equipement they do not offer do
you?

| My guess is waiting for the smartphones to mature a little before picking
them up. In addition, wi-fi capability is a plus for t-mobile. I wouldn't
be surprised if they picked up more on the next generation smartphones and
pocket pcs with have cellular, wi-fi and hopefully EDGE/UMTA.
Just my thought,
mark

| I have been using a MPx220 on T-Mobile since it came out last November
and have not had any real issues (except of course for the time when
T-Mo changed the T-Zones offering to block port 80 ... Meant I had to
get an internet add on plan instead of T-Zones for web browsing to work
....). I found that tech support had plenty of information about the
MPx220 and they were able to assist me by providing settings and so
forth without problem.
(Prior to getting the 220, I had been using a MPx200 for about a year on
T-Mo without issue as well.)
As far as the MPx220 ... It's been absolutely fantastic. Some have
complained about some "issues" involving low call volumes but I have not
had those problems at all. (And the VA says I have a 20% hearing loss
as well!!) The camera is not very high resolution ... But then I don't
NEED it to be either!! The Bluetooth works well and having that
capability coupled with ActiveSync makes this a very easy to use, all in
one, device.
As to why T-Mo is so far behind ... Beats me!! There is certainly a
market out there for these excellent devices and one would think they
would be interested in growing that market.
Cheers!!
Ken

| His device is compatible with T-Mobile France maybe, but that in no way
implies or guarantees compatibility with T-Mobile USA... They are
differcnt Companies, under the same parent Corporation...

| As I stated, he used it here while visiting. It worked great.

| No, a GSM phone will work on any GSM network.
I have a SMT5600, using it on T-Mobile USA. Many others have done so as
well.
But true, T-Mobile certainly won't support you on any phone they do not
sell. And true, T-Mobile USA has a poor phone selection, especially in
regards to smartphones.

Who are "they"? I believe the US T-Mobile is actually quite independent of
the parent company in Europe, and makes most of their own decisions,
certainly concerning phone selection. It is not T-Mobile Germany that makes
decisions about which phones will be available from T-Mobile USA (or we
might get some of the phones they have). It is the TMO USA executives, who
have given us a poor phone selection.
