how to turn off voice mail
|
|
|
| Anybody know how to turn off T-mobile voice mail entirely so that the
phone keeps ringing. My problem is sometimes I can't get the phone up
and activated fast enough before the VM picks it up. I'd just like to
turn it off, period.

You need to contact customer care and request it. You cannot do it
yourself.
But before you do that have you considered modifying the amount of
time before your phone rolls to voicemail? You can often do it
through menus on your phone (usually under forwarding/diversion.) If
you don't have menus on your phone you can use GSM codes (*#) to
control the length of time before voicemail kicks in. If you can't
figure it out you can call customer care and they can change it at
their end. You have a choice between five and thirty seconds before
rollover to voicemail.

in my phone, there is an option that says "if no answer, goto voicemail"
the goto can be changed or ignored.

Hey, thanks for that bit of very useful information. I would like to
get it to 20 or 30 seconds and then it would be ok for VM. I'll check
my phone again but I don't think there is anything with that option, I
use the Samsung C225. I'll try the customer service.
Thanks again, this has really been bugging me.

I don't have a setting like that on my phone.
I did call customer service and found out how to lengthen the time to 30
seconds and now it will hold off for that time before going to VM.
I do wish I had the option to turn VM on or off from the phone like you
have.

A long string: **61*(eleven code number group)**(two digit number up to
30 seconds)#(then hit send) then the reply on your screen is: No Reply
Voice Data Activated

You are under the impression that some people can turn off voicemail
themselves. It can't be done. You have to request voicemail be
turned off by customer care.

*30# (substitute 5, 10, 15, or 20 for the final 30
for fewer seconds before transfer.)

I just responded with the GSM star/hash (*#) code in another message
if you don't have a menu option.

That is the same string I used and it worked. After entering the
seconds, you hit the pound key then hit the send key?
--

| BruceR 2005-07-03, 9:55 am |
| Yup. I entered **61*+18056377243*11
*30# then Send. I'm on TMo in Hawaii
with a v3 and I verified the VM number as being correct. Here's a real
twister: I just tried it again with the ring set to 'vibrate only'and I
got "Forward to Voicemail: No Answer" but when I tried it again with the
ring set to Loud I get "Not Available."
Now I KNOW this makes no sense but that's what happened.

And is the 11 code number your phone number? You have 12 with the +
characters, is the + necessary?

There is not suppose to be a + in the string.

| on my treo 650 (also an option on the 600), i have the ability to "forward"
call when the phone is busy, when I dont pick up, or Iam out of range. They
are all forwaded to the 805 number, but I can tell it to forward it to
another number, or tell it not to forward at all.
I have tried the forward to another number, but never do nothing. Shouldnt
that work?

You don't do anything with *your* phone number. +18056377243 is the
T-Mobile message center number. The 11 code is for voice services
(which is all I think is available at the moment.)

The guy I talked to at T-Mobile customer service and who helped me with
this said they have other things they can tweek, but it's not in the
manual. Maybe someday they'll publish a list of stuff we can do
ourselves.

| The 61 */# code requires the number to be the destination number you
want to forward it to.. if you have TMobile to go, you cant change it
from VM... If you have a monthly account AND your phone accepts code...
great
If you want NO voice mail or no forwarding of any kind, you have to
call customer care, and ask for Technical Care and ask them to remove
"DCF" (Determined Call Forwarding) which is the default on every
TMobile account.. if you dont set CF in any way (or delete it from
handset menu or */# codes, it wil automatically forward you to TMobile
voicemail...
ONLY Techincal Care has access to the system to remove the DCF from
your netowrk profile...
