You may want to inquire about specific spots where you'll be using the
phone, and the only way to find out is to talk to other people using T-Mo in
Sacto.

Go here and put in the address you want info for:
http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/?class=coverage
TMo provided fairly accurate data right down to the specific address. Of
course, the map indicates coverage when standing outside a building as
individual building construction can affect reception.

They have a roaming agreement with Cingular there, I believe - I was
there with a T-Mobile prepaid card a while ago, and I got a very
strong singal whereever I went, but when I used my phones to see what
networks were available, only saw AT&T and Cingular - no Voicestream
or T-Mobile. Was there with a tri-band phone 900/1800/1900, and had
no problems whereever I went.

T-Mobile *never* had a network in California. They had a sharing
agreement with cingular. If you didn't get your service in California
and had an older SIM it would show cingular rather than VoiceStream or
T-Mobile.

They do now. T-Mobile recently purchased Cingular's 1900MHz network
in California:

Yeahbut.

As I understand it, Cingular is divesting much of its Cali network to
T-Mobile after the AT&T merger.

My phone can register on either Cingular or T-Mobile in this area, so I am
assuming that they have separate towers (perhaps the Cingular towers I can
register on are old ATTWS towers?)

I'm late - it already happened a year ago. :)

I only reported the way it *has* been. If there are recent
developments as far as what is happening with the network I don't
know.

Well, T-Mobile definitely got Cha-Chingular's CA/NV network. :) Happened
last year. Details here:

I'm sorry YOU have comprehension problems. I fully understood that you said
"has," past tense, and thought it might be helpful to update you on the
situation. FWIW, I didn't find out about this until very recently; I thought
the deal was still in the works.
