Author Just want to read yahoo mail...

I would like the ability to receive and read e-mail from my yahoo pop
account. T-zones seems the cheapest per month way to do this.

I see that the new SDA phone is out but I cannot just add t-zones for
$5.99. I would have to spend at least another $20.00/month for the
ability to have a big screen and read e-mail.
So... is there a non clam shell type phone that has a nice clear
screen that someone can recommend?
Right now I have a Samsung r225m. It works fine for me, but does not
have the ability to get t-zones.

Why can't you add the $5.99 T-MobileWeb plan if you buy the SDA? Doesn't it
have normal WAP support? That should allow you to use Yahoo! Mail just
fine; no need to add the Internet plan.

I called cutomer service and asked the same thing... they said I can't
do that. Did you hear different?

No, I haven't heard anything else on this subject, but any normal phone with
a WAP browser will let you use Yahoo! Mail and browse any other WAP sites
with the $5.99 plan. So, I'm guessing that either T-Mobile is misinforming
you for whatever reason or they have crippled the SDA so that it does in
fact require the full-blown Internet plan. I would bet on the former. If
you actually had the T-MobileWeb plan on your account, you could test this
by heading to the nearest T-Mobile store, slipping your SIM into a demo SDA
they have there, and trying to browse.

I think I know what the problem is...
There are two ways to read yahoo mail on mobile phone:

1. WAP - using any wap browser log in to mobile.yahoo.com (or similar,
don't remember exact url) and read it in your wap browser.

2. POP (which is what OP mentioned in first post), that is use a full
feature e-mail client installed on the phone to download messages from
POP server (need to have yahoo subscription of $20/yr to do that too).

If it's the former - the $5.99 plan will work with any of the current
phones that has a simple wap browser. If it's the later - I think the
required ports may be blocked off on that plan and a full-feature
$19.99/month plan may be required.

Those are very good comments, but, as far as I remember, IMAP, POP, and SMTP
ports are actually allowed with the $5.99 plan. It's been a while since I
did it, but I think I was able to use Outlook Express to send and receive
email. I may have to test to confirm that it's still the case.

I know I could send and send email over POP and SMTP using T-Mobile Web
with my SE T610.

Nope. I get POP3 e-mail on my phone, and I'm signed up for the
(grandfathered) $2.99 T-Zones plan.

You have to set up the e-mail accounts, POP3 server information, etc., on
your T-Zones page for "my t-mobile".

I'd suggest calling again. Often (with any company, not just T-Mo) one rep
will tell you one thing, and another will tell you another.

Be insistent. Ask to speak to their supervisor. Insist that you get T-Zones.
(They are apparently trying to convince everyone to sign up for the more
expensive Internet plans.) Insist on getting T-Zones, or you'll cancel.

Or--see if you can sign up for T-Zones online.

I had to get the $29.99 plan. There was no way around all the diff
cust service reps and tech support.
They all said I can't get t-zones with my SDA phone.

Is there a way to open a closed port?
