I had not realized that replacement batteries were available so cheaply.
The $35 ea. I mentioned was what I was quoted at the local Batteries
Plus store. I bought new batteries on eBay for our current Motorola V66
phones for $3.75 each and a whole new additional V66 on eBay for $25 to
replace our son's defective Sony (works fine with the SIM card from the
Sony).

So now we have three fully functioning phones without having sold our
souls to T-Mobile for another 2 years.

Watch out!
It seems that you got some third-party cheap batteries, and there are risks
associated with them. Firstly - the risk that they will burn your phone
with incorrect voltage/capacity, probably not something to be very
concerned about with old V66'es; But more of a concern, is that third party
cheap batteries sometimes overheat to the point of causing a fire or even
exploding. Just google for "cell phone battery explode" and you'll get an
eyefull of stories.

Honestly - I don't think it's a huge concern, only one in so many does
indeed overheat/explode (and I'm myself guilty of occasionly using cheap
substitutes), but this is definetly something to keep in mind!

The batteries I bought have Motorola labels and part numbers identical
to the ones that came with the phones.

How can you possibly state with certainty that he got aftermarket
batteries? I've bought genuine Moto batteries for that price and they
were the real deal - hologram and all.

I can not state that with certanity. However, my first reaction is: if it
seems too good to be true - it probably is. I just wanted to warn about the
possible risks associated with 3rd party batteries. If this is the going
price for real moto batteries, then great! Use them at will!

Counterfeit cell phone accessories are everywhere, especially on eBay.
