I need to use a BlackBerry while traveling in western Europe. I would
appreciate hearing from experienced users about their opinions as to which
American provider is better for voice and data roaming in western Europe --
T-Mobile or Cingular?

Thanks in advance.

None. That would be crazy and insane to roam over there. It comes out to
over $3 per minute.

Buy a sim card locally over there to use with your phone. Make sure your
phone is unlocked before you go over there.

Check out telestial.com.

I'm not going to argue about the price virtue of getting a local SIM
versus roaming with your regular carrier. That said, you won't pay $3
a minute in much of Western Europe to roam. It varies by carrier and
country, but it's closer to $2. I've been in Switzerland and Ireland
all within the last 2 years and never paid more than $2 to roam.

Some people who need to roam find value in being able to get their
phone calls routed to their regular number. For them, having a
separate SIM is a headache, and they're willing to pay the price. For
a casual user, yes, it's probably overkill.

TMobile is a big player there, being based in Germany. When I was there
last summer, roaming was a $1 or $2 per min but, to my pleasant surprise, I
was not charged anything for data usage.
