| Hi all
leaving for the USA soon, I'll be taking my PDA and GPS along
Will the rental cars, economy or compact, let me plug it in and will the 12
volt + and - match my european cable?
Thanks a lot

| The center contact will be + in cars sold here, but I don't know if a
cigarette lighter plug is different in the cars sold in Europe or not.

| C'mon guys, let's keep the "Green Wellie" brigade happy. It's called an
"accessory socket" nowdays!!

| don't forget your police radar detector!
everything is different, you know, wider seats to suit fat arses, liquid fuel is called gas, and the 12v! well that just takes the cake . . .

They are identical, its one of the few world standards! Your PDA/GPS will
work fine.

| It should work fine. Just got back from the US and had GPS and laptop
plugged into cars 'accessory socket' I did have an SUV but would think it
will work with a smaller car. When you get there ask for an rental car
upgrade in any case especially at this time of year when business is tailing
off - 'don't ask.....don't get'

It wouldn't hurt to confirm with the rental agency the car has an accessory
socket and it is not disabled. I've rented cars before that had the fuse
removed, guy at the counter said it was to discourage use of radar
detectors, go figure.

I rent cars in the US quite often and have never seen a car
without a standard 12 volt socket, though all I have seen
have a removable rubber plug installed in place of the
cigarette lighter element .
Most people may not travel with a GPS, but most business
travelers, who make up the bulk of car rental customers, do
travel with cell phones and some of these customers need the
12 volt outlet to recharge their phones.
