Author TTGo 500 (ASN missing) The saga continues

For anyone that may have been following my post (original 7th October
20:30).. Read on..

Maybe someone would like to conduct a little experiment??

Background..

ASN was working fine.
Cradle used to vibrate.
Cradle eventually broke.
Whilst waiting the delivery of another cradle, I mounted my TTG500 between
the windshield, and dash board, "held" in place by way of a Proporta
"sleeve" (a bit like a condom for your TomTom!! No pun intended. It offers
protection, and is antislip).
It was shortly after this that I found the ASN on my unit was no longer
working.
Posted to the group.
Reset the unit.
Put the ORIGINAL TT SD card in my unit (I normally use a.n.other SD card,
with all the data on)
Still no ASN, whilst driving througn tunnels.
Received the new cradle (BETTER construction, and design).
Put my TT500 into the cradle.
Made a journey. GPS was lost BUT ASN was once again displayed!! Eureka.
Changed the SD cards.
Drove into a multi storey car park (losing GPS) ASN was displayed.
So....
After all the "poncing around" it "appears" that ASN was NOT displayed
whilst the unit was NOT mounted in the cradle (how odd) Could be a STRANGE
co-incidence, but the chances of that are ??????-1
Anyone want to try this?
Remove your TTG500 from the cradle, and mount on the dash board. See if you
lose ASN.
I'd appreciate any feedback.
This is a weird one..

Cheers for all those that offered advice in my original posting, and I'd be
curious to know if anyone else could replicate the problem I had.

Thanks folks

My TTG500 screen mount snapped, was your faulty one the
clockwise/anticlockwise sucker version?? TomTom have replaced mine with
the older push/pull design, so have they had a lot of problems with the new
one?

Dave,

My original cradle that I had, had a domed part on it, which would open and
close with a thumb screw (if this is the part you refer to. They replaced
this with a MUCH sturdier version.

Hmm... Really? That could exlain why mine isn't showing the ASN icon
(Not that I know what it looks like, because I have yet to see it). But
my unit doesn't detect the cradle... Even though it will use it (i.e.
phoning tells me I need to insert i the cradle, but the mic works).

I'm just wiating for my new cradle to arrive from TT now...

I've got a support call open now with TT. I'll ask hem about the cradle
bit... I guess it's possible they turn off ASN without the cradle
assuming it's bouncing around too much maybe...

I'll be interested in your findings "H".

Having said that, when I spoke with "first line" tech support, they felt
that it "probably should work all the time, regardless of the cradle".

The circumstance of this, though, are too great to be a coincidence (I
feel).

Further tests, and help from others, would finalise my findings though.

Cheers

On mine, the plastic part inside that pulls the sucker back just sheared
off, I think the August bank holiday heatwave was just too much for it to
handle!

I have to say I was very impressed with Tom Tom. I emailed them to ask
whether I should return via Dixons (and suffer from all the associated
Dixons incompetence), or whether Tom Tom could help me out direct. They
shipped a new mount from the Netherlands within 3 days.

But.... it sometimes takes a while to get through to a human, other than "We
are busy at the moment, please call back later".

Chase up your e-mails to them, via the web site??

Never?

They usually answer all my support queries within a few hours. I think a
day has been the most. And I've had about 15 questions posted (And a new
cradle, and an offer of a refurb unit, but I swapped out a new unit with
Amazon instead as the unit was only 3 weeks old).
