Is there a portable/car mounted GPS where you can load preplanned route for
a scenic trip or to travel a specific road?

Garmin SP2610 lets you download routes planned on a PC.

JD,
It's a great idea. Although I'm not aware of any GPS that comes
off-the-shelf with pre-planed routes, it is a common task for GPS
users. Most folks use a PC for this task and then transfer the data to
thier portable unit. So, to do this for yourself you would need a GPS
and cable that connect to PC, and GPS mapping software for the PC. For
example, you can plan routes on Garmin MapSource software and transfer
the data a Garmin StreetPilot.
Some explaination about the basic use of GPS data (waypoint, tracks)
here at my
http://www.travelbygps.com/faq.php#data
Where you will also find preplaned routes for fall folilage drives,
scenic tours of historic districts, and more adventures in the
"sightseeing" category.
I hope this helps!

What's a preplanned route? Is it the same as a planned route? If you
preplan a route does that mean you have to then plan it?
