Author Updating Road Angel

Does anyone know if it possible to update Road Angel database? I get
locations of speed cameras etc in the local papers but the only way I can
update the Road Angel is drive round them all, it would be better if I could
locate them on a gPS map program (E.g. Autoroute) and input to the device.
These would then of course be uploaded to the central database at the next
synchronise.

No, the design of these requires you subscribe to their (Road Angel)
database and receive updates from them. Is their database that bad that it
doesn't have these locations already?

I suspect that the coverage could depend on where you live and how many
owners are in your area uploading the locations, it is the owners after all
who are updating the data for Blackspot. Where I live (East Yorkshire) very
few of the locations are in the database. Sure I will get them in eventually
as I drive around but I wanted to get there quicker.

Whilst they will use customer reports they are 'supposed' to have their own
surevy teams, that is after all why you pay a fee for the database!

Perhaps you should compare our coverage of your area in AutoRoute, it would
be interesting to hear how our 'free' database compares?

I have been using both the new road angel and a tomtom700 with the pocket
gps data base and have driven a couple of thousand miles between Essex and
south Wales. Generally I have found the pocketgps data base to contain all
the road angel cameras plus a lot more, plus it also has the red light
cameras which the road angel does not, although I did find a couple of
cameras listed as in the middle of a field or woods. The only drawback is
that to use the data base you obviously have to have a route running on the
tomtom, unlike the road angel which just needs to be connected and that is
why I use both.

Yes I have both but I prefer to use the Road Angel as it is permanently
wired and needs no setup. Also the TomTom in the PDA is a bit untidy with
wires and the aerial. the free database is not much different to the Road
Angel.

Actually you don't need to have an active route. Just ensure the option for
'Warn only if POI is on route?' is NOT selected. This is the configuration
we recommend and will allow you to receive warnings regardless of wether an
active route is programmed or not :)

But surely the key point here is ours is 'FREE' and allows you to do what
you need. How much do you pay Road Angel each year for a substandard
database?

Darren
I have no problems with the free database, it is good and I use it when in
cars other than the one with Road Angel.
The point is that Road Angel is permanently wired, automatically comes on
with the ignition is discreet and is concealed from thieves. If I needed to
set it up each time I get in the car there would be times when it wouldn't
happen (being a fallible lazy human being) and I might end up getting taxed
for a momentary lapse in concentration (or more likely caught by the rapid
proliferation of different limits).
What would be really nice is to be able to load your free database into my
Road Angel or similar easy to use hardware.(I'm sure someone out there is
clever enough to do this).
The best part would be the ability to update and amend the database.

Fair comment. Most SCD's use a proprietary custom database for obvious
reasons as they charge for the database updates. One worth looking at that
doesn't is Drive-Smart. You can add your own locations and the database is
free. See www.drive-smart.co.uk. I recommend you peruse their forums to get
a feel for the device and the enthusiasm behind it.
