Author TomRTom Go 500 Voices occasionally sound 'flatter, lower quality' why?

I've noticed on the TomTom 500 that the voices sometimes sound flat. By
this I mean that now and again, maybe once out of every 10 voice
instructions, the sound is flatter and lower in quality..

I find that the sound on the 500 is exceptionally clear with a higher
tone than the 300 which makes it sound like it's in 'stereo'.
Occasionally, the sound is more like 'mono' if you know what I mean.

Has anyone else noticed this and maybe know what the cause is? Is it a
software or hardware issue?
