Garmin or Magellan Mapping Software

| I am traveling to southeast and southwest China next month. I am
contemplating the purchase of either a Garmin or Magellan GPS and either
Garmin's WorldMap software or the Magellan Mapsend Worldwide Basemap
software. Which of the two products offers the most detail and smallest
scale? Seems both are around 1:1,500,000, which is not great. Thanks in
advance.

| You can check it yourself with map viewers on both manufacturer's web
sites.

| Bob,
Thanks. After reviewing both sites, and checking out the previewer, it is
tough to tell which is the better product. I have owned a couple Garmin's,
which I have passed on to friends as the technology evolves. I travel to
southeast Vietnam and China a couple times a year and the Garmin product
looks attractive if I can get the unit that has the Pacific/Oceania base
map. It would appear that I have to buy this unit in Asia.

| I have no experience with Garmin, but I can attest that Magellan's WW
Basemap software is abysmal in Asia. China, Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan - Road
coverage is scarce and seldom tracks reality. I'm very disappointed in it.
There are a few user created detailed maps floating about, if you're lucky
enough to visit the areas covered in those files. Here's an example:
