Author POI files and Navman iCN 520 ?

Anyone give me any clues how to write a POI file these devices can read. The
ASC files it reads only appear to be simple text but when I try to write any
with the correct text layout it refuses to accept the format.

Any Clues ?

Thanks

I managed to work my way through it, just get the format right and add the
extension .asc, easy when you know how !

Hi Dylan,

I have a Navman 520. I cant find anywhere to download POI files.

Could you email me so I can maybe find out from you where to get them from.

Regards

Steve

if you are using a navman you might also want to download POI edit from
http://www.poiedit.com/
to convert the tomtom data into suitable navman csv files.

So how do you rate your Navman 520? (I am thinking of getting one.)

I'm pretty impressed with mine. Works better than I expected, and the voice
guidance is actually helpful for a change.

I've had a couple of minor problems, neither one a show-stopper:

a. A couple of times its started up like normal, but totally failed to get a
satellite fix. A hard reset fixed this in each case, but not sure why its
necessary. A common feature was that the car was moving when the unit was
first turned on, so perhaps its best to turn the Navman on for a few seconds
before you get ready to start the journey.

b. It got stuck in a "recalculating route" loop in the middle of Bodmin.
Basically, it kept recalculating the route, and once the % complete reached
100% it started again. I chose to ignore it, and after driving a mile or so
in approximately the right direction it settled down and started working
normally.

I wouldn't trust my life to it - but as a guide you can supplement with a
bit of common sense it works well.

I'm a total convert. Paid £330 for mine from Argos of all places (although
you can buy online from www.expansys.com for £309 - good company, used them
loads of times). Paid another £35 to have a power supply hard wired into the
car.

Very pleased.

No, it happens also when it is started and the car is not moving.
It may be helpful to verify that the iCN is waiting for GPS coordinates
and not waiting for NMEA. In the last case a hard reset helps.

Steve/Bob/Lee

Thanks for your replies. I have asked others on newsgroups about their sat
nav and the Navman 520 is the one for me. You will smile, no doubt, when I
tell you fellas that I have this afternoon, been to Argos and bought one.
(Your opinions made my mind up for me.)

I have just been to the pub (less than one mile away) and back to do a trial
run - need to read the instructions now!

Thanks.

Bobby
