Palm VII PDA plus GPS?
|

| I want to get a mapping GPS.
My wife has an unused Palm VII PDA.
Just to get my feet wet, is there a mapping GPS add-on for the Palm that
is worth buying?

I don't think I've ever heard of one for the older Palm models like that.
I know there are some apps (Tom Tom, CoPilot, iGuidance, etc.)
available for the Tungstens and some of the other newer models.

There was a Rand McNally one that the III popped into. Round disk
antenna that reminded me of an AWACS. Not sure a VII would fit. I've
seen them around at shows. In fact I think I have one still in the box
in the garage. So things are out there. It works alright for what it is
but the problem you'll probably have it with the maps. Even if the thing
does work on a VII or there is one specifically for teh VII, I don't
know that RM is still producing or updating the maps for Palm.

| Sounds like it's not worth messing with.
Thanks for the info, guys.

| I''ve got one for a PalmIIIxe which is even older. I used it quite a
lot. It was the Rand awacs version. Problem is that you will probably
want different software and that costs more bucks than your pda. I
used Fugawi.
Take a look on ebay if you still want to check it out.
I just bought a Palm ique 3600 from a dealer on ebay (don't buy from
individual, lots of map lock code issues). It came with maps etc.
I use Fugawi too and its great for making your own maps and for hiking.
Not only that the ique is a nice palm machine plays mp3s, videos, all
that kind of stuff. Only down side is battery life and there's lots of
after market help for that.
Have fun.
