Quest is doing great
|

| I've had my Quest for a few weeks now, and recently took it on a 2 day
drive from Georgia to upstate NY. It was fun to download the track
data at the end of the trip. It operates significantly quicker than
my GPS-V... We flew back, and one thing that was interesting is that
I was able to pick up a signal on the plane. Over 500 mph and
altitude of 37000 feet on the display. Cool.

I'd even go out on a limb and say it is far better than their 26xx or 28xx
series as well.
The Quest's ability to change Data Fields (like set a field for Altimeter),
work off its internal battery for setting up a re-route while stuck in a
hotel room, compactness are surely missed for me over the more expensive
versions. The only drawback is it's small memory over one that holds a 2
gig CF card.
I got a gripe with the 26xx Touch-Screen. There are times when the unit is
in the sun and gets hot that the screen will lock up with a white cursor in
the middle of it. Gets pretty annoying to find that the black tracker arrow
isn't working and I need to either power it down or hit ESC to get it to
reactivate (only to shut down again and the white cursor returns later).

Yeah, it would be nice to have more memory. But, on this trip (>1000
miles) I was able to load all the maps I needed, with room to spare.
Plus, I usually travel with my laptop, so I could add/delete maps as
needed if required. I'm very pleased with it overall.

Turn off the remote control or stick some tape over the IR eye... some
2610's pick up IR radiation of the sun and iterpret that as "move the
cursor". After that the cursor and map stay where they were, as
intended. =8-)

Thanks!
I'm going to try that idea. Offhand, is there a way to turn of the IR via
the unit's software? I'm not using the remote control (don't really see a
reason for using or needing it at all).

Yes, there is. But, not owning a 2610, I don't know how... Should be
somewhere in the settings menu, I guess.
