Really need some help choosing between these two units please. As far as I
am aware both of them have full postcode search but I can't suss whether the
Garmin allows you to select route preferences (i.e. less/more motorways
etc).

Could anyone offer me any advice?

Many thanks

Paul

or choose vehicle :- Foot,car, lorry,bus,emergency
The rest is left to the unit to sort out.
You can set 1 via piont only.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Joe

Would you recommend the Garmin over the Navman?

Cheers

Neither one of them has multiple destination routing. Don't buy either
one and tell Garmin and NavMan why you elected to not buy those.

Without MDR you cannot control your routing, you are at the whims and
mercy of the software.

Page 24 of the Navman 530 manual
http://www.navman.com/Documents/InC..._SmartST_EN.pdf

However you have to specify the order of the stops unlike the Garmin
2600 series but if you're after control that's what you'd do anyway,
otherwise you'd be at the whims again...

Throw in the Asus a636 and you're right where I am too ;)

http://www.mobiletechreview.com/ASUS-A636.htm

The Nuvi is nice and compact for tourist travel and the mp3 player
travel guide etc.. make nice add ons, but wow it's pricey.

the 530 has (I think) more feature rich software and what looks like a
nicer interface (why doesn't everybody have park/fuel buttons, it's
what you're always looking for when travelling?) but it's only a nav
unit (no extra goodies), but it's also 2/3rd the price. Some people
say teleatlas maps aren't what navteq are but others say it's a
po-tay-toe vs. po-taa-toe arguement.

The Asus unit is in between in price, has Navteq maps, can support a
wide range of nav software and has the internet at your finger tips....
so why isn't it more popular...??

You are abolutely right! My apologies and I'll never make that mistake
again. I think I had it confused with the Garmin StreetPilot c530 which
does not do it.
