I bicycle tour and a very small amount of backpacking primarily in the USA .
I am Currently using the Mapsend topo version. Would one of these others be
a better choice for bicycle touring small towns, parks, trails? The topo
does not have much in the way of finding hotels, motels, stores
conveniences. Here's what is whats currently available from Magellan.

MapSend Streets & Destinations in the US
MapSend Streets in the US
MapSend Topo in the US

Thank you in advance,

Dave

Those are all pretty old at this point. Magellan's main current map
products in the US are:
MapSend DirectRoute - US vsersion 2.0, and
MapSend Topo 3D - US

Both have similar street and road coverage (using NavTeq-sourced data),
but DirectRoute supports finding turn-by-turn routes from A to B while
Topo 3D lacks auto-routing but includes elevation contours. Note that
the Topo 3D only provides 3D elevation views on your PC, not directly
on the GPS screen.

Unfortunately the routing of DirectRoute is pretty elementary with no
option for choosing a bicycle-friendly (or even legal) route or
favoring shortness or scenery over speed.

Thank you , this is very helpful information peter. The suggestion of using
the auto pilot never crossed my mind, I have one of those things as I got
this as a gift last year, never used it "yet". This gives me a far better
idea of what to look for.
