I have been experimenting with my new Garmin 60CSx using the Canadian topo
maps. They SUCK compared to Touratech topo maps. Is there an alternative
to the mapsource topos that can still be loaded into my GPS?

Not really, the GB Topo maps suck as well. Garmin are trying to cover
to many markets leading to average products.
