If I'm not in the car, my GPS is not in the car. Period. Not even to run
into a store for 15 seconds. It is easy enough to take out and replace so
why tempt a potential thief?

Locking the car invites damage also. I've had my cars broken into twice
with no loss but others with locked doors had a lot of damage.

I got one receiver that's been in my car almost 24/7 for 12 years.
Antenna atop the car(s). And I alway lonk my vehicle. But I live
in the heartland of Iowa.

Well there ya go, you "LONK: your vehicle, while others just merely "lock"
theirs. I guess that makes all the difference! ;\)

In Boston, Philly, or NY, you'd be lucky to get 12 minutes.

One of the reasons I didn't take job offers in Dallas, Ft George G Meade
and Detroit in the mid 70s.

yeah... but then why would you need a GPS unit in the "heartland" of
Iowa in the first place?

Cause it's easy to get lost out in the flatlands where there aren't many
street signs and there aren't a lot of people to ask directions from!

GPS units are a god send in 'heartland' and farm full areas; addresses are
by distances from mile markers on a state road and often hard to find.

With a coordinate locked into a GPS unit, you can find locations in a snap,
even if the road you're on is not on the map, the GPS will track your
movement on a 'roadless' field.
