Hell, I'd like to be able to purchase some inexpensive software to
convert scanned maps to my PDA.
How ever, I need to know:
What programs will accept scanned maps, what programs will do scanned
maps?
And so forth

Windows Mobile and Palm?
You can use scanned maps in OziExplorer, Memory-Map, Pathaway and Fugawi.
There are more but these are the most common.
Converting scanned maps is not automatic. You have to calibrate the maps
using known points and coordinates.

You have some ideas as to which ones work with an iMac?
Ozi, Pathaway don't. I don't know about the other two.
