I want to buy a Garmin Etrex Hcx

Is there anyboy who can tell me which brand/which size of memorycard
is usefull/can not give problems.

I see advertisements for 'no label' cards, but also eg SanDisk 2.0 GB
microSD Memory Card
Is there a maximum size/ which brand is not suitable?

The SanDisk is certainly a good choice, I have a number of them and have
never had any problems with any of them. As for size, the 2 GB cards
are known to work now so that is a safe size to buy as far as being sure
it will work.

Garmin has said that eventually the higher capacity (4 GB and up) SDHC
type cards will be able to be read.

Being able to use the 4 GB SDHC cards will require a software update for
units in use now, if you buy a new one it may or may not be able to use
a card larger than 2 GB at this time.

I know a lot of people who have had a lot of problems with
a lot of different brands of flash memory. The same folks
never seem to have those problems after I convert them
to SanDisk.

I'm sure they have failures but they do seem to be rare
and I have never personally experienced a problem with
SanDisk cards.

When you need a larger/faster card, check around for
promos and rebates -- you can usually find the SanDisk
available at a good price. Costco typically have a
range of SanDisk cards in stock too.

SanDisk are good. I have had good luck with Kingston also. I have
had bad luck with lesser brands. I have the Garmin Etrex Hcx and
installed 2G Kingston in it. I am pleased with it.

I recently purchased two Etrex Vista Hcx units, one as a gift, one for
myself. I put in one a SanDisk 2gb, and in the other a Kingston 2gb.
Both display flawless function.
