Where to get UK maps for a US GPS?
|
|
|
| I'm thinking of buying an inexpensive car GPS like the Mio Digiwalker to
supplement my old Garmin hand-held. They generally seem to be available
in the US with US maps or in the UK with UK/EUR maps. Almost all mention
the availability of additional memory chips for other world maps. But
I've been unable to find a US source for the UK maps for any common
receiver. I've used Google (perhaps w/poor choice of key words), and
also browsed a bunch of electronics dealer sites w/o much luck.
Suggestions please?
Thanks-

With street prices below $300, every major maker has what I'd consider a
reasonably priced car GPS. I'm not attached to Mio; just like the price!
Haven't find a US stockist for UK maps for any of these units, though.
Am considering a UK road trip in February, and would like to buy one in
the next couple of weeks.
Thanks-

I don't know how the prices compare over there, but a brief look seems
to indicate they are like they are in the UK, with the cheap units
about 90% of the cost of a Tomtom and far less useful. For Tomtom you
can buy the maps from the Tomtom website.

| I own a TomTom One, and maps for Europe, North America, Australia, and
others are available by download.

Much obliged for this and other responses. I now see that all maps are
available for download at reasonable prices - just not on the US site!

Not sure if Mio has UK maps available, but it will probably cost you at
least $70 if they are - just something to keep in mind when looking at
prices. This is one reason I went with the TomTom Go 920 - for just over
$400, I got a widescreen unit with both US & European maps included.
